Tim Wheeler is a chess player and coach who having started his chess journey in Australia in the 1990s has been playing and teaching chess in the Buckinghamshire / West London area since 2021.

As a player, Tim has an English Chess Federation (ECF) rating of 1865. This puts him in the top 1% of ECF registered players. Tim has been Captain of the Gerrards Cross First Grade team since 2022 and won several internal club competitions.  Notable performances at national level include outright 2^nd in the 4-Nations-Chess-League u2000 tournament in January 2025, an “even” score in the British Championships (50+) in August 2025.

As a coach, Tim has undergone the Chess in Schools and Communities trainers’ curriculum, has instructed this curriculum in London Primary schools under the CSC scheme, and has been one of the main Juniors Coaches at Gerrards Cross Chess Club continuously since August 2021. Tim has enjoyed putting his own playing and learning experiences to good use for future generations of chess champions, but more importantly seeing kids have fun as they learn!

Tim has a clean “Enhanced DBS Certificate”, and has undergone Safeguarding policy training for children and vulnerable adults.

Tim offers in-person and online coaching to Juniors and Adults from beginner to advanced-amateur level.
